Here are my top tips if you would like to build a pergola:
- Clarify why you would like a pergola. For example is it to provide some shade, as a spot to entertain or as a garden focal point?
- Choose the location carefully. Look at the garden space from all the angles. It might be a fine opportunity to rearrange the garden space.
- Mark out the desired pergola size. Be sure it is not too out of proportion for the garden space.
- Look at the outlook from all garden side windows. Are you still happy with the siting?
- Check there are no underlying pipes and cables.
- And last but certainly not least, obtain the pergola plans in the exact size you require.
